Altyre estate, where GSA Highlands & Islands is housed

Altyre

GSA Highlands and Islands >

GSA’s Highlands & Islands campus is located on the Altyre Estate near Forres, around 27 miles north-east of Inverness, and 125 miles from our main campus in Glasgow. The campus was opened in 2016, and provides an exciting opportunity to engage with local communities, and study in the spectacular surroundings of the Scottish Highlands.

The campus occupies a stunning cluster of 19th century Italianate buildings, which have been converted into a world-class creative campus. Students can take advantage of inspiring studio, workshop and exhibition spaces, as well as state of the art areas for research, teaching, prototyping and flexible lab work.

The campus is part of The Innovation School, one of the GSA’s five specialist schools, applying the concept of Design Innovation to the key issues defining contemporary society. The Highlands & Islands campus is home to a closeknit but diverse community of practitioners, researchers and educators: students on three taught masters programmes, self-directed master of research students, PhD candidates and staff engaged in world-leading research.

Learning opportunities are supported by digital and remote teaching methods, as well as short seasonal schools that bring students from around the world together in Forres.
